World War Two Awards and Decorations

Award of the Military Cross
to
Lieutenant Richard Brian Meredith King, 19th April, 1945.

Citation
This officer has been Regimental signal officer and under the system of communications operated in this Unit he has always acted as Liaison Officer at Infantry Brigade H.Q. during the Tunisian campaign and Italian campaign.
This officer is the inventor of the three-set re-transmission system which is used by all six Regiments in the Army Tank Brigades operating in Italy.
Lieutenant King operated his wireless vehicle in the battle for the Hitler Line while under constant shell fire and at no moment were communications lost. On numerous occasions this officer, in the absence of the Commanding Officer on reconnaissance, has controlled artillery fire and has used his initiative to suggest tactical action to Squadron Leaders as pictured to him by the Commanding Officer before departure on reconnaissance.
I consider that Lieutenant King’s exceptional ability and courageous behavior in the Tunisian and Italian campaigns deserve some recognition.
