North Irish Horse Tank Names - Cork

L/Cpl Victor Duke, Recce Squadron, aboard Edenderry

Taken the day she was delivered by 253 Forward Delivery Squadron, November 1944, as can be seen, her insignia had not yet been painted on. The following day she fired her guns in anger for the first time, shelling enemy positions in the Forli area.

Edenderry and her eight 1 sisters did sterling work laying down artillery barrages at ranges up to 3,000 yards. Two Mark Vs of 145th RAC (21st Tank Brigade) on one occasion were hitting targets at 5,000 yards. There is no record of Edenderry being in the van.

1 Recce Squadron had three Mark Vs, fighting Squadrons two each.
