Tigers versus Churchills of the 25th Tank Brigade
An Unequal Battle
Introduction
For a tank that created so much fear in the minds of Allied tank crews, readers may wonder how possibly could Churchills get the better of Tigers. The short answer, the Churchill was well suited to do battle in the terrain of Tunisia and Italy, the Tiger was not. The purpose of this article is to expand on this brief explanation.
The original intention was for the first four Heavy Tank Battalions - schwere Panzer-Abteilung (sPz.Abt) - equipped with Pz.Kfw.VIs (Tigers) and Pz.Kfw/IIIs - to be deployed to the Russian Front. However, in response to a plea from Field-Marshal Rommel, aPz.Abt.501 was diverted to North Africa. Our story commences with this Heavy Tank Battalion.
