A.M.8 25th A.T.B C.N.F.
It is the deepest regret that we announce the loss of one dear to us all, our "Skipper" Capt. F.Ward. He was loved by us, not only as "Our Skip", but for himself as a man. May he rest in peace in Heaven's "Gilwell".
----------------------------
Brother Rovers,
Here we are at last with the very first edition of A.M.8. Almost every Crew has its own "Mag" so we are contributing our little bit of news to help swell the files at I.H.Q., but with just a little difference, seeing that we are a "front line" Crew.
It is almost a year since the Crew first saw light and many are the stiles we have climbed to gain our present position. From a beginning of 4, we have grown to a large family of 35, not bad under our conditions. Now we are becoming stronger with every meeting and a jolly crowd we have got too! We have representatives from each of the Home Countries and are so able to gain a wider knowledge of Rovering than if we were still on our own doorsteps.
Meetings are held once sometimes twice weekly and, considering the "dumps" we always seem to land up in and also the distance units are apart, we do well to average 18 at a meeting.
Units have formed their own Patrols so that activities can carry on when Crew meetings are impossible. To date we have three Patrols and are hoping to have a Patrol with each unit of the Brigade, It is aiming high, but I'm sure that we can do it!
A word now to ex Scouts and Rovers who have not heard of our doings in the Brigade. Do you remember B.P.'s famous words? "Once a Scout, always a Scout". Well, here's your chance to carry on the good work. Scouting is going to reach new limits when this show is over and your help is going to be needed. How about it? We meet on Sundays at the "Sally Ann", (The Army's affectionate name for Salvation Army canteens - Ed), our notice board is there too so you may read all the "grif" for yourselves.
Now I must pipe down hoping that A.M.8 recalls memories of happier days when we put the "Out" in Scouting.
Yours in Rovering,
Hank
